Beltane

Beltane this year falls on a Thur. Most folks will be doing their rituals on the week-in. My suggestion is that you do some form of Ritual on the given day. At some point during the day pause, hold sacred space and do ritual. You can do this solo, in small groups or large gatherings. This is a Fire and new beginnings Ritual. In the ancient days this was a day of sexual joining and fertility. Does not matter how you do your Ritual, what matters is that you do it.
Blessings

I don't know where you get your information from or which years calendar you are using but coming from a long line of Dryads I know that Beltane is April 30th, not May 1st as you seem to think. I have noticed that this is a common mistake made mainly by Americans through no fault of their own but due to mis-information. Traditonal Beltane rituals in Europe start at sunset on April 30th and are celebrated until dawn on May 1st. Even people who do not follow the path still participate in similar rituals to this day. Most European countries have a Bank Holiday on May 1st which adds to the confusion, but in the past the holiday was used to recover from the Beltane festivities the night before.
As Beltane falls on Wednesday this year (Wednesday being the sacred day of the Celts akin to the Christian Sunday) it is more powerful and any ritual performed is given extra strength. As is is midweek in the working world I would suggest consecrating a green candle to the Goddess and lighting it after sunset, taking time to meditate, send positive thoughts and wishes out and letting the candle burn right down if possible. Then at dawn wash your face with the dew on the grass. This is the best way to celebrate in a small way if a busy lifestyle prevents you from celebrating Beltate fully. But in future I would advise anyone who follows the old ways to mark May 1st on their holiday calender at work in order to fully experience this most sacred day. I hope I haven't offended anyone by posting this, I just want as many people as possible to receive the blessings of Beltane to the full. Love and blessings to all. Michy

Hi Patrick, I have been celebrating Beltane all my life in various parts of Western Europe and this is the first time I've heard it is celebrated until sunset on May 1st. If I am wrong I would like to apologise for my mistake. But I would be interested to know where you got the information so I can learn more. If there is one thing I know is that we never stop learning and only the ignorant claim they know all. What I wrote comes from teachings from childhood on as I was born into an old family that has always kept to the old ways, which is not uncommon in the British Isles. But just because that is the way my family has always kept that tradition doesn't mean that it is 100% right. I love to learn as much as possible so any information that you would share would be most welcome. Thank you and blessings, Michy

in celtic culture, the day is always measured from sundown to sundown. the same is common in many cultures, eg. judaism. if we measured beltaine, or for that matter, lughnassah, samhain or oimelc, from sundown to sunrise, it would only be a half day. a day is still 24 hours, whether measured from midnight to midnight, or sundown to sundown.

Thank you, that does make alot of sense. I had never looked at it from that angle and you are right, some of the other festivals you mentioned we celebrate for an entire day, especially Lughnasadh. I will adjust our celebrations accordingly and thank you again for the information you have shared with me. Maybe people here have shortened the celebrations to fit in with modern life, but my friends, family and I will enjoy prolonged celebrations from now on. Blessings, Michy
