that would be me, lol. i homeschool my 3 boys, i homeschool for many reasons, i feel they are more impowered, less processed, they learn more, they retain more, they are nicer kids in general, they are safer....... lots of reasons. disclaimer: every family is different, this is how i feel about MY family, what works best for my family. as far as introducing paganism to them, i feel like i am very pagan oriented, Goddess oriented, and so i talk with my kids about Her, magic, how to use simple magic, how to use the secret, as a way of empowering my kids and helping them to grow and bringing us closer together. my oldest especially gets into it, he loves harry potter, and he is a wizard! as he is delighted that magic is real!
does that answer most of your questions, lol? so are you a homeschooling pagan oriented parent then?
    and merry meet!

I have a young son (1 and 1/2) but have been considering it. I ran across somone commenting on another site that homeschool was unpagan (whatever "unpagan" means) and that if we wanted our kids to be multi culdtural and informed about things other than our beilifs we shopuldn't homeschool. So I thought it mught be an intresting topic here. I personally don't trust my publis schools as far as I can throw them; and mine distrect is the best in the state of MN! But i am worried about how to do it. I mean how do I teach my son reading and math and to be open to all veiwpoints? And when should I start things? is there any recorse pagan and not you could recomend?

i am a retired high school teacher, pagan, hermit anarchist.
in my years as a teacher, i watched as standards and budgets decreased and watched the government spin about alberta students excelling on world tests. bullshit.
i believe that the public education agenda is to dumb down brilliant minds through boredom, consign weaker students to welfare and justify it all with statistics that lied.
if i had children, i would home school them.
i don't know where you live, but assume that there is limited government support for home schoolers...big surprise.
there is an excellent book by grace llewellyn called "the teenage liberation handbook...how to quit school and get a real life and education". although it aimed at older students, the philosophies and ideas are worth reading. it shows how there are learning opportunities all around us.
as a teacher, i would be happy to give any assistance i could. i think the internet is a powerful tool, if used as such.
        peace, patrick

    Sarah,
I have been pagan for 31 years and my daughter is fam trad. I homeschooled her all through high school after watching her grades take a noisedive in a huge conglomerated school, without sufficent good teachers, outdated books and overcrowding. I sought out a local independent study program offered by a local school district; and then injecting paganism into the general history and social studies sections.
I recommend you pick up a copy of "The Teenage Liberation Handbook" by Grace Llewellyn. I know your kids are younger, but it gives good information on homeschooling and unschooling.
Home schooling is as pagan as skyclad and don't let anyone tell you differently. Do what is best for your kids. And if you need socialization and a multi-cultural atmosphere, the independt study program my child was involved with had all sorts of kids; beyond that go to pagan festivals, multicultual events and even go to the local Unitarian Universalist Church or Fellowship. They are usually a very accepting group and have all sorts of children's programs and events.

Thanks to both of you. I'll check out that book, it sounds really interesting. Lee you have also givin me an idea on a study program, I think the distrect we live in (and I grew up in) has a program like the one you used! Ours even allows for a real HS diploma and easy transfer into school if it ever came to that.
